A Great Christmas Tradition

Some great family friends of our...and I'm sure some of yours also...The Kane Family...have a fantastic family tradition this time of year that we are planning to incorporate into our own family Christmas traditions...Every night at dinner pick a Christmas card you have received and pray for that family...isn't that great!!! I love that...and of course this could last well through December into the following months...what a great way to teach our children to pray for others...

Boys!!!!

I just love the Little Rascals movie!!! It makes me laugh...

12/4/08

OUCH!!!

I broke my baby toe today...the one on my left foot...I slammed my foot very hard on the leg of our love seat...my only excuse is I was half asleep...anywho...When I told Colton he was very concerned...with horror on his face and in his voice he asked " can you still make dinner and breakfast and lunch"!!!!

Question of the Day

The question I'm embracing today...all day...
I'm hoping to make it a life style but I'm starting with one day...

Am I living to my full potential in Christ?

12/3/08

Q-tip Day

Today I feel the Q-tip and I have much in common...ugh...as you all know I'm growing my hair out...well...now that it has gotten a bit...did I say itty bitty bit...longer I have to wear it curly instead of hip, cool, spiked in the back with a swoop bang...and remember how I was having trouble with my curl? Well...it's back with a VENGEANCE...so I'm left relating very well to the Q-tip...and it's kinda scary after a good nights rest when it's not quite light and you walk by a mirror in the dark...GOODNESS...Thank God I didn't yell out I would have scared my little slumbering family to death!!!

12/2/08

Another Great Quote From My Dad...

My Dad is full of great quotes...Once I told him...dad when ever you think of these things write them down...I'd buy that book...so on his latest blog to me here...he titled it..."My enemy is growing my hair on his head"...It's talking about how we are our own worst enemy...dieing to self is a continuous process...how God reveals things to us about ourselves that maybe we don't even realize we haven't killed yet...because sometime you know we don't just sit back and die...we've got to get up take action and KILL it...anywho...I love it...
"My enemy is growing my hair on his head"

Focus...

My goal for the week...
For Darin, Brittani and Colton to know that my favorite part of everyday is when they come home...
I get so caught up in duties of my day...I'm sorry to say that sometime I think they feel like I couldn't give a rip when they got home...ok maybe I'm being a little dramatic...who me??? But I'm almost positive that they probably don't realize that it is my favorite part of the day...and if it's not it should be...hello...so how has it gone so far??? Pretty good I'm trying to reach everyone with their own little love language soooo...I'm getting the house more organized and orderly for my hubby...making him coffee in the morning and dinner...how nice of me huh...lots of talk time with Brit and words and texts that say...I am soooo lucky you are my little girl you are awesome...and quality time and attention for my little man...Oh and they get dinner too...
so far so good...then again it's only Tuesday...

11/25/08

Happy Thankgiving!!!!!!!!!!!!!

11/24/08

The woman at the well...God is soooo incredible...I can't forget what it means to be Christ to the world around me...yes even I can make a difference because of Him only because of Him...

Sixsteprecords...

Sixsteprecords is the label that Christ Tomlin, Matt Redman, David Crowder band and Charlie Hall are on which Loui and Shelley Giglio pretty much run...this is from an article that I red this morning that is really resonating with my soul...the whole concept of how they came up with the name for the label is truly the way to build a business, a worship team, a church, your life...very inspiring...to read the whole article go here.
Let's start this story in 1,000 B.C., when the Israelites finally figured out how to return the Ark to Jerusalem. Shelley Giglio, Director of Label Operations, recounts the tale from 2 Samuel 6:13: "It says that they went six steps, laid the Ark of the Covenant down, and then they built an altar and worshiped. Some scholars think they did that every six steps for the several miles to Jerusalem. They were so grateful they were alive—that they'd figured it out, that the glory of God was going to be back with the people of God—all that made them so worshipful that they couldn't go very far without stopping, building an altar, and worshiping." Thus the name, sixstepsrecords.
That name is a reminder to everyone associated with the label of the importance of worship. Shelley Giglio continues, "It's a reminder to me of the purpose for which we were created—that it's really wise for us to worship often, that if we're really going in life much more than about six steps before we figure out how to worship, then we've probably gone a bit too far." The label avoids capitalizing their name as a reminder that it's not about the company, but about God. And they spell their name as one word to show that they operate as a close-knit family.

A funny Response...

Ok so yesterday's Random act of kindness went Great!!! I wanted to share with you my funniest response...I took 2 pans of the enchiladas to work to give to the girls...there are 4 of us that work together including me...one of the girls just had surgery and is out for a couple more weeks...don't worry I took her a pan of enchiladas too...anywho...one of the girls kept saying "why Brandi...why...ohhh why Brandi" and I kept telling her just because I wanted to do something nice for them and she said..."should I pay you"? I thought about saying yes just to see how much she'd give me for them but decided I better not...Just Kidding...
You can do it!!! I'm telling you it is totally worth it...
Oh and I made some for my own family...which was also a random act of kindness...hee-hee...poor things...

11/18/08

Random act of Kindness!!!

Tag you're it!!!!

I challenge all of you to do one random act of kindness today or tomorrow...and write back here and tell us how it went!!!

Buy the person behind you at Starbucks their coffee...pay for the order behind you in the drive- thru...give your favorite checker a gift card for coffee on you...something!! Come on you can do it...

I'm making lots and lots of enchiladas and dropping them at some of my favorite peoples houses for dinner tonight!!!

My Hair...

Well...I'm growing my hair out...yep...I feel like a fluffy old Mexican man...I've tried so hard to make it me but it just isn't...I don't think I'll grow it as long as it was before but for sure past my ears...probably to my shoulders...

Movie Night!!

So...what's more fun? Finishing this...or... Movie night with the kids!!!We had a great time on Saturday night! We ordered Journey To the Center of the Earth on ppv...broke out the popcorn, candy and drinks...it was a fun relaxing time together...way better than stadium seating...way...WAY more fun than folding laundry

They look so serious...really we had a good time...

You've got to believe me...

As I Seek...

I read Colossians this evening and in reading there were so many things that stood out to me...but here are the scriptures I will be meditating on this week...

Colossians 3:12-14
Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Help me Lord to truly take in Your words and make them a part of who I am...amen

Tell our stories...

Lesson # 2
This came to me in a sort of ripple affect of current events...one being the book about Rehab Unashamed that I just finished...there is a part in the book the night before the Israelites were going into battle...that the elders called the children around and told them their stories about God and all he had done to get them to the place they found them selves...my thought when I read this was...we have got to remember to tell our stories to the generations...the stories of Christ's faithfulness in our own lives...but when I was further studying the bible the thought came to me...do my children know our stories from this book? The stories past down from generations the legacies of Christ and his people left to teach us who God is...was...and always will be...Hmmmmm...so I decided to talk to my son first and I asked him...Colton...do you know the story of Daniel in the lions den? No...how about David and Goliath?Kind of...ummm what about Peter James and John in the sail boat? There nets were filled with fish...what about passover?...nope...my heart sank and I realized I have failed to teach my child the stories that matter most...I moved on to Brittani and she new more than her brother...which her wonderful Elementary Sunday school teacher Linda deserves all acclaim...thank you Linda...I told them how sorry I was that they didn't learn these truths about our savior yet and that the reason why these stories are sooo important is because it teaches us who God is...how he handles things...I gave them the desert example about the Israelites wondering for all those years because they didn't obey God...but that God never left them...He provided for them all that they needed and gave them chance after chance to get it...and how that teaches us even though we make mistakes God will never leave us He will have grace and mercy on us and give us chances to do better next time...also that there are consequences for the decisions we make good and bad...you know what...they both got it...and couldn't wait to get started...Soooo we started at the beginning and we wont stop until we reach the end...

Thank you God for showing me what I need to work on and giving me another chance to get it right...I love you...amen

You ROCK!!!

Thanks guys!! You really pulled through with some great information. It was exactly what I needed...:)

10/28/08

It's NEVER about me...

1 Corinthians 10:31
Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

Lesson # 1 on my new journey:
It's NEVER about me...

How many times is this the source of all of my problems...forgetting that it is NEVER about me...it is ALWAYS about Him...it is so obvious yet I forget this time and time again...in big and small ways...MY time, MY money, MY body, MY ministry, MY rights, MY children, MY marriage...you get the picture...how MY life would be so much easier if I remember this is not MY life at all...
I hear you God and I will move forward from this point remembering what you have shown me...Lesson # 1...this life that You have given me...is NEVER about me...I love you...Amen

Coffee Talk Chit-Chat Unashamed Ch 5-7

Well I just finished the book!!!! YES...YES...YES...we serve a mighty God!!! I love the ending of that story...you can find this story in the book of Joshua in the bible...Read it...what an amazing true reminder of God's incredible faithfulness...God just amazes me how he continuously give us far above what we will ever deserve in our lives...from Rahab the prostitute to Rahab the woman of God...
Rahab and Salmon had a son, Boaz.
Boaz was the father of Obed;
Obed, the father of Jesse;
Jesse the father of King David.
And from the line of King David of the tribe of Judah
came the promised Messiah,
Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord.
WOW...go Rahab

10/23/08

The More I Seek You...

This is my anthem...I'm on a new journey...God has set my feet on new ground...I've been called to step away from things that have become distractions...things I have allowed to come between me and all God has called me to...I'm looking forward to pressing in...

Consume me father...purge me of self so all that's left of me is You...Amen

CoffeeTalk chit chat Unashamed Ch 1-4

What a dork I am!!! I just realized I have yet to post ANYTHING about our current book Unashamed!!! Hello...

So I am thoroughly enjoying this book...and I think it's safe to say so are all the ladies in the book club!!! Rahab is quite an amazing woman...I love the faith she had in a God she only heard stories about...I love how God sent Salmon and Mizraim as spy's and revealed the plan before they came back to the tribes...telling us that God will have us do things that may not make sense to us but makes perfect sense to him...that He would take the time to seek after and ultimately save Rahab from the life she had known giving her true life in return...it's a good example of how God will turn anything in our lives for good and for his complete purpose receiving all the glory...from the day Rahab was conceived, given to the king, becoming a prostitute making the best out of a terrible situation...God always knowing she would be in the lineage of Christ is just WOW...
Ending Chapter 4 the Israelites just Crossed the Jordan and the people of Jericho are in sheer panic...but Rahab is in a state of excited anticipation awaiting the arrival of her new life her one and only God has come!!!

Say what you need to say...

What does someone need to hear from you???

One of the pastor blogs I read talked about how this past Sunday he spoke on Proverbs 15:4...The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life. But a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit...His post along with this video has really inspired me as well as challenged me to put into words my feeling and thoughts about the people in my life and just say it...to them of course...it's a great post...definitely food for thought.

God's Little Blessings...

Sometimes God's blessings come in some strange packages...but blessings non the less...
My Nieces baby shower is this weekend and I ordered some of her gifts on line...I've been waiting with excited anticipation for them to come in the mail...and they did...yesterday...I ordered I cute little dress out fit and A little white cardigan to go with it....
Here is the little dress...isn't it adorable!!! And this is the cardigan...you see my problem...Hmmmm
So of course I called to see what happened...and just a little up set because her shower is Saturday and I know what ever they are able to do for me I will not receive my cute little white cardigan in time...but....after waiting on hold for more than a little minute and listening to quite a nice collection of show tunes...I got the good news...they re-ordered the sweater that was now an additional $20.00 off...credited me for that...and...I get to keep the pillowcase...which I think will make a couple of CUTE eco friendly shopping bags...bonus!!! So like I said God's little blessings come in some strange packages but I'll take um!!!!

Coffee Talk Book Club...

I can not believe we are done with our book Captivating...what a journey huh girls...I'm so proud of the way you allowed God to use this book to bring us closer to the women he has created each of us to be...I love you all...so this Thursday is our celebration dinner and I can't wait!!! No dancing on the tables ladies...
Here is our next book...we wanted to choose something relatively short and light (but great) after our last book and before the holiday break...it's called Unashamed by Francine Rivers...it is the story of Rahab in novel form...this will be the last book we read together until after the holidays...can you believe it??? We will be having the next coffee talk book club meeting on Thurs. October 2nd...schedule and place to come...remember you can always join here on my blog if the limited hours in your days make it hard for you to meet with us in person...or you just don't live around here...we would love to have you join us!!!

The Wedding!!

What a beautiful Wedding!!! My niece was absolutely breath taking...we are so proud of her and now hubby and happy for them...My nephew officiated the wedding...isn't that special...looking at them I was just so proud of my sister and what a great job she has done and is doing raising her family...I love you all!!!

Here are some terrible pictures I took...I'm definitely not as gifted as my photography friends...Michelle (who photographed the wedding) Jen, Dave, and Rhonda...but you'll get the idea...:)

Dad playing the wedding march on the hammered dulcimer...it was beautiful...

The bride and groom...

These are my sisters 2 youngest kids...they looked so cute walking together...

Buds/cousins...they really miss each other...love you girls...you are gorgeous!!!

The fam...

Great job sis...I'm so proud of you!!!

The Drive...

We went to see my family in the L.A. area this weekend...my niece was getting married and of course we wouldn't miss it for the world...with gas prices the way they are we had to take our little, tiny car and it just isn't as comfy and spacious as the Tahoe but we saved $100.00 so comfort smomfort...
This picture says a lot about me and Darin...He's donut shop coffee and I'm Starbucks...Taking a 9 year olds picture in the car...Taking a 13 year olds picture in the car...ugh
Who's this handsome stud?
The beautiful 91 freeway...almost there
see the big building with the flag on it...there is also a big panther to the right...this is The High School Darin graduated from and where he worked for gosh I don't know how long from 1988 as a football coach then a long time as a teacher and a coach until maybe 1998/99ish...any who...when we get to this point in our trip the kids go WILD...it's crazy...I guess they know we are very close to Nana and Papa's house maybe 20 min to go...And of course the beach...I have to go even if it's just to look at it and smell it when we visit...
I didn't get it in the picture but just to the right is the play ground I used to take the kids to early Saturday mornings when Darin had football films to review with the team...then we'd go to
Mc Donald's for breakfast...the good old days...

Zombie Woman

Why did I only get 3 and a 1/2 hrs sleep last night???
Because of this!

Rock Star Toes!!! Jen and I decided we were paying WAY to much for Rock Star Toes...$45.00 with out tip...WHAT!...and of course Brittani decided she needed Rock Star Toes too...so...my bill doubled breaking the bank! For those of you who don't know what Rock Star Toes are...be warned they are addicting...it is actually acrylic powder mixed with glitter...color of your choice customized to your satisfaction...and every toe is a sparkling wonder dancing across your foot...they are great!!! So like I said Jen and I got all the stuff to do our own...after all I am a licensed professional...we thought we could save money and help our friends save money too...but of course we needed to see how they would look before subjecting our other friends to the madness...why did we have to start them at 9:30 pm and not get done until 1:30...well good question...pure vanity and pride I guess...we are both going out of town...and you should have gotten a look at are sad little Rock Star Toe daggers we had going on...no no no that just wouldn't do...so here I am Zombie Woman with some Rock'n Toes!!! Who needs sleep? By the way these pictures just don't do them justice!!!

Coffee Talk Chit-chat Captivated Ch.12

Ch. 12 An Irreplaceable Role

You are the only you God created...You are the only one that can bring what you have to offer to the table of life...God created you for purpose...His purpose and you are the only one who can do it the way you do it...because you are one of a kind...a custom made daughter of the King and He loves all that you are...
Thank you Lord for loving us in our individuality thank you for creating only one of me to fulfill your special purpose for me...I'm the only one who can love you the way I love you...the amazing thing is that you care to be loved by me...I'm so proud to be your daughter...I love you...Amen

Coffee Talk Chit-chat Captivating Ch.11

Ch. 11 Warrior Princess

This is taking action it is a description of a person doing something to stand up for what we have and can be in Christ...to take away what our enemy seeks to destroy...body, mind, and spirit...In Eph when it says to put on the armor of God...do it ...we need it!!! Guard your heart Prov 4:23...
What I'm taking away most from this chapter is this...be pro active...be prepared for the battles that WILL come...by constantly/continuously living a Christ centered life...in every possible way and in the midst of every single circumstance.

Well even though I only heard from one of you...thank you Lori...my fellow curly headed friend...I decided to cut my bangs and I think I like it...here is another lovely picture...
They are still little sticks but I can blend them in a lot easier and I'll just keep them short until my curls grow back in...by the way I can still clip them back as well...there ya have it...

I Dare You!!!

Food for thought!!!

My hair the epic story...

OK so...my curls are starting to come back....slowly...all except my bangs!!! I'm not sure what to do...I am having to clip my bangs back every day because it just looks crazy when all of my hair is curly and the front is just hanging there like little pointy sticks...ugh...should I cut them shorter and let them grow out...I'll still be able to clip them back...what do you think? Here are some lovely pictures...

with clippage...looking at it like this...hmmm...I'm not sure I like this look...it's kinda like the messy bun for short hair I guess...With out clippage...of course I don't usually where it this far over my glasses but I wanted you to see the straightness...ugh...I love the look it's just the front...yikes...what if they were just above my glasses maybe that would work...I could still do the messy bun (for short hair) and I wont have to wait so long for my curls...what do you think?

How far is to far?

Ephesians 4:29, 31-32

Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.
Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.
And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

I know this happens to you too...How do we keep our selves from falling into the trap of gossip? Is it ok to VOICE (vent) frustrations you have with others to others? If so how far is too far?

I would love to hear what you have to say on this one...

FromTriangles to Squares

Oh triangles how I miss thee...I never knew a triangle could mean so much!!! To never cut a triangle sandwich again...my world's all askew...Colton informed me yesterday that he would like his Sandwiches in one big square and not the little triangles I've been cutting them into for the last 9 years...sob...
